The Rocking Chair

While the hammock is most commonly used for Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras- the rocking chair the special chair of Nicaragua. They are usually hand made of wicker and natural wood. You will find them everywhere- the living room, the porch, the cafes, the libraries, museums, parks, etc.

They are quite common yet very special. When you sit in one, you completely relax as you tip yourself back and forth. Something about sitting in one triggers my mind to think about myself, the world, to question, to wonder, to create a new theory- it's a wonderful tool to trigger some creativity and get your mind going or just rest and take a nap in one. The people of Masaya fully utilize the rocking chair by sitting and reading the paper, holding a baby in their arms, watching over the neighborhood, and sharing conversation. It's a tool for relaxation and a tool for learning and thinking. It's truly a beautiful tool towards relaxation and calming the nerves.
