Unfortunately, God does not make the world with the intention of making money and materialism the core component to success. Love, health, purpose, spirituality/religion, family, and personal success are incredibly more important. This world focuses on income and money more than the actual work that is done.
You could be saving the world from world hunger with a new theory and proposal that took you ten years to create or invent. A person would say, "Were you working when you did that?"
"How did you pay your bills?"
If that person still looks healthy and well put together, you can assume that they met their basic needs just fine without your unnecessary question.
It's so sad that people find such need to question income. It shows how superficial our world truly is and your world may include your own friends and family who judge you. They don't see you functioning like them on a 9-5 basis, therefore, you are not succeeding.
Again, you could have amazing theories and be planning positive, effective, impactful plans to help people. All you get is, "How do you pay for vacations?" "Who pays this?" One must be doing something to get money. Those who have heart and work with passion are broke in financial value. They may stay that way or they may wind up like Deepak Chopra, Joel Osteen, Bill Hybels, Oprah Winfrey. People who combined their amazing passion with leadership and money making.
Of course, most people would not admit that that they don't want both, but they do. Who doesn't want the publicity and the ability to impact not a thousand people, but millions. The social status to influence people all over the world. People do want that raise of income as long as their passion and character stays the same.
Those average people working in ministry, non-profit, and ngo's are not making any money. They do it for the passion and the love of their work not to prove income. This is how they may live their whole life or they may be promoted, start their own organization, write a book etc. This is how the passionate survive-they think of another creative idea. They don't just focus on
"How much money am I making today?"
"How much is my income going to be this year?"
It's about being responsible, paying bills, taking care of their family, shelter, transportation, and food. Some days may be tough and you don't know where the next mortgage payment will come from, but that's where God comes in and makes things happen.
These people who question income may be unclear on the beauty of faith and love for Christ. When you are committed, God will take care of you. God will open doors and present opportunities. He will have you receive a grant or scholarship. He will have your car or house sell. He will take care of the electricity bill with a credit. These things happens when you believe. Those who question income are living in the socially constructed bubble and may be stuck inside that, which is common for Americans. But perhaps they just don't have enough trust or faith in God for what he can do.
My whole entire life revolves around my faith. My main support has been my faith. When I couldn't pay my college tuition, I received a 5,000 check in the mail. When I didn't know how I was going to eat for the week in New York, I found a $50 bill on the ground. When someone stole my purse, I met an angel who helped me get it back. When I had an unsafe living situation, he found me a place in the Catholic housing.
When you stop worrying so much about money is when things happen. Perhaps those rigid, structured ones think that sounds stupid and irresponsible. In my defense, maybe I can say that you just don't have enough faith and need to let go of materialism and focus on feeding your soul.
