When I go into a new city, sometimes I have a plan as I did in Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras. Even with a plan, it goes off course as I am still fully dedicated to people within the community. I don't just give myself to strictly one place at the end of the day. Rather than taking just one direction, I believe in giving the most of myself to one or two things. Often I find better opportunities, but I already made the commitment.
Therefore, why not wait and see what he finds for you? Truly, the best times are when I don't have a plan i.e. Nicaragua and Panama. There was no map leading me one specific direction rather I had to figure it out with God's lead and the community needs.
Leon is the second largest city in Nicaragua with a large amount of historic Spanish colonial churches(Wikipedia). These churches largely interact with the community through projects, after school programs for children, support groups, music groups for youth, and food shelters/ distribution. It's an interactive community, which is one of my main reasons for loving it. There is not the wide gap between the rich and poor. It seems there is a middle class, a lower class, and the poor.
When you ask people what are some of the social problems, they seem to know what is going on. Those from the street with real jobs and businesses were the ones who identified the community needs.
Mi amigo exchanging money for people shared with me some information about a reading program via his friend. He told me he would walk me over whenever I was ready to meet the guy in charge. This man was so helpful in such an altruistic way. I kindly thanked him and decided to stop by the church first. The owner's son of my accommodation recommended I stop by the San Francisco Iglesia....I did and God lead the way to a church of good people, a good pastor, and a place in need of some positive light.
