When it comes to the people I spend my personal time with, I am selective, especially as I get older and realize the high importance of time. Actually, the importance of time management. It's easy to group with the tourists and spend all your time with them, but that contradicts the reason for traveling. The best part is to learn about the locals, learn from their life, and enjoy their company.
When it came to spending time with others on the island. I did not just hang out with everyone everyday rather I tried to distribute my time between some locals, tourists, and kids. I spent some time with M's adorable Honduran boys, I played volleyball with kids everyday after the library closed, spent time with my local friends at Mama's , and spent time with select tourists from my hostel.
There were a few local men who I met and wanted to hang out. It came down to having someone to show me around the island and have fun. My standard of questioning just gets right to the point. "Do you have a bike?" There were two guys at work and one being, Sam, who would have taken me except I didn't ask him. The one person with a really nice bike was my friend Stan from the restaurant. He was such a nice, sweet teddy bear like person. He was the chosen one because he was nice, funny, well traveled, and held a good conversation. It was just easy to talk to him and his English was perfect.
Off we went into the sunset on his bike. He picked me up on Friday- my last day and my work friends were embarassing me like 10 year olds on a playground. They were saying, " "Oooh look Priscilla you're boyfriend is here." I said in my George Lopez, cartoon, 10 year old voice(they said that I talk like George Lopez-ok I'll take it). I responded, "He's not my boyfriend." " I stomped away saying," You guys aren't my friends anymore and I'm not going Out with you later." They all laughed and my friend forever says "Oh what an actress."
I run and quickly say bye to the kids that are left, which is about 5. I hop on the bike and do my princess waive to everyone. Bye bye friends and bye bye Sand Castle library.
