Bye Bye Guatemala

Saying "Goodbye" to Guatemala was quite sad as I loved, loved Guatemala.  The owner from the hotel kindly woke up at 5 am to make sure I got to my bus okay.  He booked the direct bus from Flores to Belize City, which is about 5 hours. He helps me carry all my stuff to the bus and he sends me off with a kind "Adios."

The bus to Belize City is about $14 and there are a bunch of tourists and a few locals.  On the bus, there are two girls from England having a problem with their ticket as the driver says it is "invalid." They are having a fit and going off with their English accent and I am thinking it is way to early to listen to their accent-sorry, but just saying.

After eating some animal crackers and juice and taking a nap(yes preschool behavior on the bus), we arrive at the Belize border. Everyone had say you have to pay $13 to cross the border in Belize.  When I went through Belize customs, I saw a sign that said, "Cashier," but I walked past looking confused.  The taxi driver said, "You don't have to pay, just go."
I stamped in the Belize office and she had a nice, sincere "Welcome to Belize for me." She asked me for 20 Quetzal ($3 USD) and that was it.

Welcome to Belize where the currency is the Belize Dollar and the rate is $1USD=$1.8 Belize Dollars. The Guatemalan Quetzal was a better value, but have to work with what you got.
